The Transformation of bunny & hare
bunny & hare began as a simple idea in 2016, inspired by the birth of Haley, Fashion Designer Gabby Lewis's first daughter, in 2015. During a trip to Tokyo, Gabby Lewis’s husband suggested the name bunny & hare while they were lying in bed. That idea sparked a vision to create something amazing for Haley, a collection of baby turbans, rompers, leggings, and dresses that the founder loved seeing her daughter wear.
These designs were showcased at the Las Vegas and New York Magic Shows, introducing bunny & hare to a global audience. It was an incredible experience for the brand. In 2018, when Gabby's husband accepted a job in Tokyo, The family moved with Haley, who was almost three years old, to Tokyo. Once settled, Gabby felt the brand needed more and began reworking the designs with the help of an exceptional seamstress.
In 2019, bunny & hare received international recognition, being featured in two issues of British Vogue. This milestone was a surreal moment for the brand. Motivated by this success, Gabby enrolled in fashion school in the fall of 2019 to further refine her skills.
When COVID hit in 2020, everything came to a standstill. Japan, the heart of bunny & hare and the place where it all began., remained central to the brand’s identity. With production paused, Gabby pivoted to making masks, producing over 3,000 during the pandemic while continuing her studies and improving her craft.
In 2021, after a brief return to the U.S., Gabby focused on completing her education. By May 2022, the family was back in Japan, but bunny & hare remained on hold. Instead, a new brand, GaMi Lew, was launched, focusing on adult designs. Life presented new challenges, including health issues and the birth of their second daughter, Hannah, in November 2023, prompting a temporary pause from designing.
In August 2024, Gabby got a new spark and decided to rebrand GaMi Lew, focusing on drapes inspired by Japanese kimonos. This renewed direction reignited her passion for design, leading to a collection that is now sold in two stores in Japan.
January 2025, bunny & hare has made its official come back, this time as the kids' collection of GaMi Lew. The brand now focuses on custom drapes for boys and girls, retaining the playful spirit of its origins while embracing a more refined and modern aesthetic. Haley, now nine years old and affectionately known as “bunny,” leads the brand as its designer, with her baby sister Hannah, “hare,” by her side.
Today, bunny & hare creates drapes for boys and girls, all made with love in Japan. This journey, marked by challenges and triumphs, reflects growth, resilience, and the strength of family. bunny & hare is more than a brand; it’s a story of love, creativity, and the belief that anything is possible.
